A Right to Know: What Human Trafficking Survivors and Their Advocates Need to Know About Monetary Remedies in the Law
In 2003, Congress amended Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) to add a civil remedy provision. Most states have now followed Congress’ lead by passing human trafficking laws that also included a survivor’s right to sue. For many years these civil remedy provisions in the law have been underutilized in the fight against the crime of human trafficking. This seminar is designed to serve as an introduction to the civil remedy options available to survivors.

Questions To Be Answered By This Course:
• Why should every trafficking survivor consider filing a civil case?
• When should a survivor consider filing a civil case?
• Can a civil case be pursued in a trauma-informed manner?
• Who can be sued?
• What to expect from the civil justice system?
